PSS/E Software overview

PSSE (Power System Simulator for Engineering) is a software platform used to model, simulate and analyze transmission network and generation performance in both steady-state and dynamic conditions.

Steady-State Simulation

provides the functionality for steady-state network analysis.

Dynamic simulation program

Provides transient, dynamic, and long-term stability analysis.

Applications of PSS/E in Power System Analysis

Our services prioritize precision and safety in every project. With a focus on quality workmanship and customer satisfaction, we ensure your electrical systems are efficient, reliable, and built to last.

Steady-state network studies (planning and operations backbone)

Typically run major studies engineers:

Dynamic Simulation

PSS/E also includes dynamic simulation and that the dynamic simulator supports transient, dynamic, and long-term stability analysis.

Why PSS/E is important to power systems

It supports a wide range of investigations into planning and operation of electric power systems. In practice, that means utilities and system planners can:

  1. Establish credible base case via power flow.
  2. Stress it with contingencies (N-1/N-2).
  3. Evaluate transfer limits, voltage performance, and overloads
  4. Check fault levels and switching-related constraints
  5. Reduce networks for studies and speed
  1. Steady-state feasibility (voltage/thermal loading)
  2. Dynamic adequacy (stability/response to disturbance)

Outages are simulated and system must meet acceptable criteria (voltages, loading limits, integrity, stability). Failure implies added system elements (planning) or adjusted pre-contingency conditions (operations).

Load flow-based analyses are used to assess voltage variations with active and reactive power change.
