FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

Common questions about our services

Find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about our power system consulting services, simulation studies, and professional training programs.

PSCAD (Power Systems Computer Aided Design) is an advanced electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation software used to analyze fast electrical and electromagnetic events in power systems. It is widely used by electricity companies, manufacturers, researchers, and engineering consultants, and is particularly valuable for studying high-speed electromagnetic transients that cannot be accurately captured using traditional transient stability tools.

PSCAD is especially used by professionals who need to analyze fast and detailed events in electrical power systems, particularly in studies involving power electronics, HVDC, FACTS, protection, and electromagnetic transients.

PSCAD allows modeling of HVDC transmission systems, voltage source converters (VSCs), solar inverter systems, wind turbine converters, battery energy storage systems, and flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS).

PSS®E (Power System Simulator for Engineering) is an industry-leading power system simulation and analysis software developed by Siemens as part of its Gridscale X power grid software portfolio. It enables engineers to perform complex transmission system studies, including power flow analysis, dynamic simulations, contingency analysis, short-circuit studies, and network expansion planning. PSS®E has been used with confidence by the power industry for over 50 years.

PSS®E is used by electricity companies, transmission system operators, Independent System Operators (ISOs), Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs), power system consulting firms, renewable energy developers, as well as universities and research institutions.

PSS®E is used for transmission network planning and expansion studies, interconnection studies of new generators and renewable energy plants, power flow analysis, transient stability studies and dynamic simulation, short-circuit analysis, voltage stability studies (PV/QV analysis), contingency analysis for reliability assessment, optimal power flow studies, renewable energy integration studies, and network code compliance studies.
